56-YEAR-OLD WOMAN KILLED IN HEAD-ON COLLISION WITH DRUNK DRIVER

Despite increasing awareness of the dangers, drunk driving continues to be a problem across Tennessee, and throughout the U.S. As a result, other motorists, passengers and bystanders may be seriously injured, or killed. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly 30 people are killed every day in the U.S. in alcohol-related collisions.

According to reports, an impaired driver was responsible for causing a collision that killed a 56-year-old Myrtle Beach woman. After a day of drinking on the golf course, and afterwards at a bar, the 30-year-old drunk driver veered into oncoming traffic and struck the decedent’s vehicle head-on. She had reportedly observed the drunk driver’s vehicle and unsuccessfully attempted to maneuver her car out of the way. The woman’s fiancé, who was in the passenger seat, was also injured in the accident. There were no details disclosed, however, regarding the types, or severity, of injuries he sustained.

The driver was charged with DUI for his role in causing the fatal accident. Although the collision occurred nearly two years ago, in May of 2013, the case just recently went to court. It was reported that the man pleaded guilty to the charges against him. As a result, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Nothing can bring back a loved one who is lost as the result of a drunk driver accident. However, financial compensation may help people as they adjust to their loss. Those who have experienced situations such as this may benefit from consulting with a legal professional. Working with an attorney may help them to understand their rights and options.
