NEW STUDY RANKS TENNESSEE DRIVERS AS AMONG THE WORST

The results are in and it looks some of the most terrible drivers in the country are from Tennessee. A recent survey found that Tennessee drivers ranked eighth among the states when it comes to bad driving, according to CBS News. The study took a number of factors into consideration when tallying up the results for each state. These included:

  • The number of speeding tickets issued
  • The number of uninsured drivers on the road
  • The number of people arrested for driving while intoxicated
  • The number of traffic fatalities

The large number of motor vehicle deaths each year in Tennessee played a part in its ranking, as did the large number of uninsured drivers in the state. In fact, only 80 percent of drivers in Tennessee have car insurance.

Other states in the Southeast were also represented on the list. Florida was the number one state for bad drivers thanks to its high number of uninsured drivers and the number of people searching the internet for information on traffic tickets, followed by Mississippi at number two. Alabama, which had low scores across the board, came in at number six.

It also appears that certain counties in Tennessee have drivers that are worse than others, according to Only in Your State, at least based solely on the number of deadly accidents. Anderson County did not make the top ten, as most of the ranking counties were in the western part of the state. The top three were Grundy County, Benton County and Polk County.
